Worship

What to expect when you worship with us…

We enjoy a traditional worship style. When you arrive you will be greeted by an usher who will give you a Bulletin which walks worshipers through the service allowing everyone to participate in the liturgy. We celebrate the Lord’s Supper on the first Sunday of each month as well as Christmas Eve and Maundy Thursday, and others times as deemed appropriate and determined by our pastor and session. Our worship services are led by our pastor and a liturgist. Anyone who enjoys public speaking is welcome to sign up to be the liturgist.

Following the prayer of confession we take a few minutes to share the peace of Christ with each other. You can expect to have fellow worshipers greet you during this time.

Once a year our youth, under the guidance of their leaders,  lead our worship service. Traditionally one of our graduating seniors is given an opportunity to present a “Senior Message” and one youth will give the sermon. This year we had several share their musical gifts, as well as their gift of dance in a liturgical dance choreographed by the dancers.  During this service we recognized the graduating seniors and presented them with a gift that, even years later, many still use.  Pictures of this year’s service can be seen in our photo gallery.

Music

We are blessed to have a committed organist/music director as well as a youth music director who works with all ages of our youth. Occasionally one of our youth will share their musical talent though vocal solos or instruments.

We have an adult choir that leads us in worship every Sunday, September through June. The choir takes a short break each summer. During that time we often have special solos, duets or other special music.

We have two bell choirs: the Winchester Bells and the 16th Street Ringers. The Winchester Bells practice weekly, the hour before Choir practice. They play about once a month  during worship. We also enjoy the music of the “16th Street Ringers” several times a year, when our youth play the bells.

Following worship we spend time visiting with each other while we enjoy cookies, lemonade, and coffee in our Narthex which is at the back of our sanctuary.
